After I graduated and passed the MBLEX I was so excited to start massaging. I put up the free website that AMTA (American Massage Therapy Association) offers as part of your insurance subscription, I made business cards and started a business IG. A few weeks passed and no one was calling my phone. Maybe I was expecting clients to just appear out of nowhere? I had a few family friends who knew that I was a massage therapist but it wasn't enough.
One day I decided to walk the neighborhood and hand out my new fancy business cards. That got me one client, yay! The following week I asked my hair dresser if I could set up a massage chair outside of her salon. I offered complimentary five minute massage demos to everyone passing by, gave every single person my business card and left some at the salon for anyone who asked. That got me one more client, wahooo! Then those clients had friends that were interested so I created a referal incentive- an extra fifteen minutes on their next massage as a thank you. Clients LOVE this promo which I still offer to this day.

It took about a month for the word to spread but my client profile went from 3 to 20 pretty quickly. You have to put some effort in at the beginning and probably offer your time for free but the juice is worth the squeeze. My advice is to take any volunteer job you can get- if you get one client from it then it paid off. Even if you don't get a client from it, take pictures and post them on your business social media. Make an online social presence for yourself and don't forgot to use the right hashtags. No lie, one hashtag has gotten me two clients!
Remember: Someone else's success is inspiration. There are enough clients to go around. Let's support each other and work together to help as many people as we can. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned therapist, I wish you luck on your journey and hope these tips will help to you grow your business!
