Chair Massage Event Checklist

Updated: Aug 27, 2023

So this list exists somewhere in the back of my head but I figured if I wrote it down it may help someone else too. (And also myself as I seem to always forget something)

Chair Massage Checklist

1. Your chair

Make it a point to set it up the night before the event just to make sure you have all of the right parts and that everything is clean and working properly. (My chair is as old as I am, made in 1992, and there’s one pin that holds the seat part up. You better believe I have to put my eyes on that one little stinkin’ pin the night before the event.)

2. Stool/ something to sit on

Body mechanics will get you through it but when someone wants their lower back massaged you have to do one heck of a lunge to reach it with proper body mechanics. I have a small collapsible stool that weighs nearly nothing and has an arm strap

3. Small table

You’ll want a surface to display business cards, any marketing you have, hand sanitizer and cleaning supplies. Most places will provide one for you but always ask ahead of time or come prepared.

4. Paper towels

The ones with half sheets if possible. It’s the easiest thing to use for clean and disposable face cradle covers.

5. Cleaning spray or disinfectant wipes

Natural brands made with essential oils and no harsh chemicals seem lighter on the material.

6. Plastic bag for trash

Depending on where you are doing this, you may need to BYO trash bag.

7. Hand sanitizer

Obviously, right?

8. Marketing materials

Business cards, promo cards, giveaways with your business name on it, etc.. everyone loves free stuff.

9. Massage Oil or Cream

It's rare that I use oil during a chair massage but it has come in handy for really hairy backs/ necks or older crepey skin.

10. Clock

I use a small battery powered clock and keep it on the table that I bring. You can always use a smartphone app as well.

11. Money!

Depending on what type of payment you accept be prepared with singles in case someone needs change. It's also a good idea to have your venmo/ cashapp set up and a smartphone adapter credit card reader if you choose to accept credit cards.

Extra Suggestions

-Essential oils to start off the massage

-Sarong or towel to put over someone’s lap if they are wearing a skirt or dress

-Notebook for new clients info

-Speaker for music

-Paper weights or rocks to keep your marketing materials from flying away if your event is outside

Chances are if you are doing chair massage, you are looking to build your clientele, Let me tell you my secret...

I made MORE money NOT charging for chair massage and just getting tips from grateful clients versus charging for every chair massage. Find your target market and volunteer for a couple of days. The amount of clients you get will be well worth it!
